Matt Neal
Owner | Head Trainer
I’m Matt Neal, owner and head trainer here at ECR.
I was born and raised in a small town in Eastern NC where I developed a passion for dogs and the outdoors at a very early age. I grew up spending time at the horse barn, taking care of farm animals, hunting, fishing, and a love for playing baseball.
I attended Pitt Community and Mount Olive College where I was fortunate enough to extend my baseball career. After graduating I purchased a black lab named Jet to begin waterfowl hunting with and quickly people began asking me if I would help them with their dogs after seeing the results I was having with him.
At first, my goal was to build a better hunting dog, little did I know, my competitiveness and ambitious nature would lead to running hunt tests and later field trials.
We have been very fortunate to have some great dogs and wonderful clients that have supported us and we certainly wouldn’t be where we are without their support!
My wife, Morgan and my daughter Molly are my biggest supporters and the reason I get up and work hard every single day. I am extremely blessed to wake up and do what I love every day and could not do it without their support system.
My passion for what I do combined with hard work, a pursuit for perfection and the knowledge to know what it takes to make your dog successful in their career is what separates us from the competition.
John Todd
Assistant Trainer
I’m John Todd and I’m 26 years old. I was born on Andrew’s AFB and grew up in Falls Church, VA. I attended Guilford College where I was a starting pitcher and obtained my Bachelors of Science in Accounting.
I graduated with my Masters in Accounting from Wake Forest University where I was also a member of the fishing team. I began duck hunting in college and that lit a fiery passion for the outdoors which transformed into needing a dog to retrieve my ducks.
From the first day with that dog all I wanted was to make him and our relationship better every day. We worked very hard at it and people began to notice and ask me to help them out with their dog. I found Matt not long after and he was willing to help and mentor me on my training journey.
I spent a lot of hours driving to and from just to throw birds and learn. That led to a friendship and eventually Matt offered me a job helping him train here. I knew I had found a true passion in dog training. I have always liked to help others and there is no feeling like seeing the smile on a clients face when they take their dog home from training, knowing that you helped improve the relationship between them and their dog, I am grateful to all of our clients for trusting us with their dogs and allowing me to be able to do what I love every day.
